Egham Town FC 0-2 Leighton Town FC

With Egham currently sat 11th in the table and with a win against Daventry on Wednesday it looked like Leighton had their work cut out to even earn themselves a point.

Once again several players were missing and the substitution bench was limited, however the pitch was in beautiful condition considering the horrific weather over the past few weeks.

The first half saw Egham kick off but Dom Marsala won Leighton a free kick almost immediately earning them possession.

6 minutes in saw Joe Chanderim have a shot for Egham however it was off target and only 3 minutes it was Leightons' turn for a first chance at goal.

Shane Bush skilfully manoeuvred himself and the ball past Eghams' defence to find Gareth Chendlik who managed to walk his way around Jamie Norris leaving him sat on the ground and the ball in the net, putting Leighton in the lead.

A free kick for Egham saw the ball clear the Leightons' defensive wall and put over the bar by Ryan O'Toole.

18 minutes had gone when a low cross from Jerry Lyons fell to the feet of Chendlik who put the ball in the net making it 2-0. A rough tackle on Kristian Stephens saw him having to leave the pitch to replace his sock, before rejoining play.

With Leighton being awarded a free kick, Stuart Deaton stepped up to the ball and managed to find Bush, a good cross found Sean Bishop and Chendlik challenged the keeper whilst the ball was in the air, he clattered into him but unfortunately was not able to walk away with the ball.

Minutes before half time it looked like Egham had scored when Maurice Harkins' kick bobbled on the line before Matt Griggs managed to secure it.

The second half saw Egham attacking the ball much more than Leighton and it seemed like they were running out of steam. Leightons' first yellow card of the game was shown to Deaton who fouled Calvin Thomas in the 51st minute.

A good run by Stephens, half the length of the pitch, managed to play the ball to Bilal Hassan who found Marsala he attempted to score but unfortunately he couldn't get the power behind the ball that was needed.

Ryan O'Toole managed to struggle past Grant Fryer in the 64th minute and thankfully put the ball over the bar.

A throw in for Egham saw Ryan O'Toole end up with the ball and took his chances firing the ball towards the goal, Griggs reacted quickly and dived right to make the save. Shortly after a shot from Reis Stanislaus was then stopped by Griggss' outstretched right foot, keeping the scoreline at 2-0.

Some brilliant play by Bishop and Lyons saw the ball fall to Marsala who shot at an open goal but it skimmed past the post. Lyons was brought off in the 79th to make way for Enzo Silvestri to try and liven the game up.

A succession of yellow cards for Leighton then appeared, Jake Bewley was booked for kicking the ball away and Bush, even though he won the ball fairly, was also booked.

Silvestri and James Ward both received yellow cards when they squared up to each other after taking a tumble. 2 minutes before the final whistle Craig Wells made his debut replacing Chendlik.

Egham were reduced to 10 men when Ryan O'Toole was sent off due to his aggressive behaviour towards the referee and to that of his own team mates.

Leighton managed to walk away from the last game of the season with a win meaning the 3 points got them to 19th in the league with a total of 31 points.

Thank-you to everyone who took the time to support Leighton this season, congratulations to Dunstable who have automatically been promoted and good luck to the 4 teams in the play offs.
