Slough Town FC 4-1 Leighton Town FC

After settling for a point last weekend, Leighton were hoping to tackle Slough to the ground after winning at home against them earlier in the season. Leighton welcomed back Bilal Hassan to the team but unfortunately with 5 of Leightons leading men unavailable the team was a mishmash of faces.

Slough kicked off the game at a fast pace which Leighton managed to keep up with until the second half. 5 minutes in saw Jamie Bather go down with a head injury, however the referee failed to acknowledge him and carried on playing until the ball was kicked out of play.

Another incident that the referee failed to notice, until the supporters made him aware, was when Warren Plowright was held to the ground by Ed Smith after a tackle and refused to let him stand up. The game continued and it was obvious that although Leighton were playing well, Dom Marsala was the weak link constantly passing to the opposition.

11 minutes had past and Leighton had won a throw in, Hassan stepped up and delivered a tremendously long throw and after a bit of toing and froing the ball landed at Kieran Doughtys' feet and he put the ball in the net giving Leighton an early lead.

With a goal in the bag, Leighton became fierce when it came to defending their area and this was seen when Sean Bishop went to head the ball only to end up colliding with Matt Griggs, who then had to receive treatment.

Johnnie Dyer had a pot shot at goal for Slough but it was well off target and didn't even threaten Leighons defence. Dennis Fenemore thought he could go all the way on his own in the 22nd minute, however he stumbled around with the ball unable to do anything with it.

Leighton thought they should have been awarded a penalty when Shane Bush was taken down in the box but the referee carried on with play, which then lead to Scott Harris finding a gap in Leightons defence, making the score even.

Slough nearly made it 2-1 moments later if it hadn't been for Doughty who kicked the ball off the line. However this was not enough to stop Slough from getting a second goal as on the stroke of half time David Woozley put the ball in the net after Griggs tried to jump along the ground to save it.

The second half saw how unsporting the Slough supporters were when the ball went out for a Leighton throw in and Jake Bewley had to clamber over the wall to retrieve the ball, after they refused to pass it to him.

Leighton had to make an early second half substitution when Doughty pulled up injured, Gareth Chendlik was brought on in his place. The likelihood of Leighton winning this game slipped away when Dyer scored Sloughs' 3rd goal after Leighton just stood and watch the ball go into the net.

Once again Plowright ended up being held to the ground, but this time by Harris and both were shown a yellow card. 65 minutes saw Bewley miss his header and Slough had a chance to get a 4th but luckily the shot was wide.

However it really was all over for Leighton who just couldn't even do the simple things anymore, passes weren't sticking and no one was winning the first ball let alone the second. With these simple manoeuvres failing, Slough managed to get a 4th goal in the 70th minute when a goal mouth scramble took place, seeing Griggs punch the ball away, only for it to land at Dyers' feet and into the back of the net.

Leighton decided to take off Marsala and replace him with Craig Maisiri with only 10 minutes remaining, hoping he would liven the team up. Slough carried on pressing every single Leighton player putting them under pressure.

Griggs continuously made crucial saves. right down to the last few minutes of the game in order to stop the goal difference from creeping higher. Injury time saw Enzo Silvestri earn himself a yellow card after taking down a man and a final score of 4-1 to Slough.
