The pitch at Bell Close was looking in much better condition than it was last week, making the football much easier to play for both sides.
Once again, it was Leighton who started the brightest.
Matt Hall hit a thunderous effort from the left hand side, but a good save by Jack Medcalf denied the full back. But Hall scored his second and Leighton’s second of the season when his free kick from around 25 yards curled over the wall and into the top left hand corner, an unbelievable strike.
Both sides were attempting to play the ball around but to no avail, with a lot of the football being played in the middle third, with many an interception happening between both teams.
Tom Wyant wasn’t troubled at all in the first half as not many chances fell London Colney’s way.
Leighton lost Aaron McKee in the first half to injury, he was replaced by Junior Muya.
The second half sprung into life very quickly. The ball sat up nicely on the edge of the box for Alex O’Brien and he hit a beautifully timed half volley towards the top right hand corner, however, one of the finest saves I’ve ever seen was produced, as Medcalf tipped the ball on to the crossbar and out for a corner kick, tremendous goalkeeping from the Colney shot-stopper.
Then despite hardly having any chances, Colney were level. A goal mouth scramble lead to the ball being bundled into the back of the net and the London outfit were level at Bell Close with 30 minutes still to play.
Denilson Da Silva went close with only seconds to go. A ball was played through the defence and his shot was parried away well by Medcalf, who kept his team in it during this game.
Not the most entertaining of games, however, progress nevertheless for Nicholls and his team, as they add their first point to the League table this season.
Next up for the Red and White Army, is a trip to Roker Park to take on Stotfold FC on Tuesday Evening, the Town’s first away game since Harpenden on the opening day.
If you can make the trip, come to Stotfold and support the boys!
