The Town welcomed Crawley Green to Bell Close on Tuesday evening,

as Danny Nicholls and his team looked to get three points on the board, after Saturday’s opening day defeat at Harpenden.

The Town started relatively brightly and were looking to play out from the back at every possible opportunity.
Lewis McBride went close early on, but his shot went thundering past the post.
Leighton looked comfortable in possession with Jamie Nicholls, Warren Garcia and Alex O’Brien dictating some of the early play in the middle of the park.
Junior Muya drove out of the defence on one occasion which created a good opportunity for The Town, but still, no joy in front of goal.
Crawley Green went close just before half time, but Tom Wyant in the Leighton goal was equal to the shot.
A good first half from the Town, which showed how Danny Nicholls wants his team to play football this season.
In the second half, it was Leighton who went closest again in the early stages.
A low cross from out wide found its way into the box and a sliding Jamie Nicholls connected with the cross, but couldn’t turn it goal-wards.
Nicholls made two early second half changes, with George Armstrong and Kelvin Osei-Addo being replaced by fan favourite Dom Masala and Ben Gallant.
Gallant had Leighton’s best chance of the game on the 60 minute mark, when a fantastic pass was played through to him, but the ball bobbled and his shot went sailing over the crossbar.
Ultimately, the missed chances in the second half came back to haunt Nicholls’ side.
Two defensive errors cost the Town the game, when on another day this could’ve been a comfortable victory for Leighton.
The first, Junior Muya took too long on the ball inside the Leighton box and Oluwanimilo (Nimi) Ajigbolamu of Crawley Green was quickly onto the ball and tapped the ball into the empty net, giving the visitors the lead.
The second goal came when ‘Nimi’ was on a powerful charge for Crawley Green and entered the Town box where Muya brought him down and the referee had no option but to point to the penalty spot.
Mark Bunker converted the penalty into the top left hand corner, despite Wyant's efforts, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Despite the 2 goal deficit, the ‘Shed End’ were fantastic all evening, bringing some atmosphere down to Bell Close.
The Town failed to create anything of note after the two goals, with only a few minutes to go they could not get back in the game.
On another day, Leighton could have won this game, but, it just wasn’t meant to be on Tuesday night.
Nicholls and his team have an early break from League action this Saturday, as Town welcome Royal Wootton Bassett Town, in the Emirates FA Cup.
Come and Support The Town and who knows, maybe we’ll be off to Wembley! Que Sera Sera!
