St Ives Town 5 - Leighton Town 0

Town's abysmal League form continued on Saturday at St.Ives when the hosts scored 3 times before half time to put the game well beyond Leighton's reach, and two further goals in the second half just added to Town's misery.

The hosts took the lead in the 13th minute after good approach play and a good final pass set the unmarked Clark free on the left side of Leighton's defence and he slotted the ball across Sam Mazurek and into the far side of the goal. Town held their own for a while but there was no real threat to the Home goal apart from a couple of shots from outside the box which were easily dealt with by Trebes in the hosts goal.

Town went further behind in the 31st minute when they conceded a corner. When the ball was crossed into the penalty area Death was left completely unmarked, to rise and power his header into the net. St Ives increased their lead when former Town player Danny Watson showed his finishing skills by slotting in the third in the 38th minute.

If Town were hoping for an improved second half showing they soon found that the hosts were not taking it easy when an attack down the St. Ives left flank in the 47th minute saw a low cross fired into the area and Sam Mazurek at full stretch could only get a hand to the ball and Eason was left with an easy chance to score the 4th.

Town to their credit kept battling but the hosts were showing why they will be challenging at the top of the table this season and some absolutely naive defending by Leighton presented Watson with an easy chance which he finished in style in the 60th minute.

This is a game that the management, players and supporters will want to forget very quickly, but lessons have to be learned or Town will continue to struggle at the wrong end of the table.
