Aylesbury United 2 - Leighton Town 1

Leighton travelled to Thame on Wednesday night to play fellow strugglers Aylesbury United in probably their most important match so far this season, but it was the hosts who took all three points thanks to a late winner and probably on the night they just about deserved the victory.

Aylesbury were by far the better team in the first half and created several chances which with a little more assurance in front of goal should have given them a least two goals.

The Hosts took the lead in the 17th minute following a well constructed move that saw the ball laid back to the edge of the box where Bruno Brito was waiting and his powerful left footed shot struck the bar and bounced down behind the line. Shortly after this the hosts thought they should have had a penalty after a poor tackle by a Town defender. chance from the penalty spot.
Town changed their formation in the second half and looked more compact and it also allowed them to retain a greater share of possession.

Despite looking the better side during the second half Town did not really create a clear cut opportunity but James Hatch chased a ball into the penalty area and appeared to have pushed over by former Town keeper, Zaki Oualah but much to the disgust of Leighton players and fans referee Mr Evans allowed play to continue.

It looked as if all Leighton's efforts in the second half would prove fruitless but in the 82 minute they drew level when Jordan Jenklins headed home following a corner. Town looked like they would earn a share of the spoils but three minutes later some pathetic defending allowed Aylesbury to cross the ball from their left flank and Lee Coulter was unmarked by the far post to head the ball past Sam Wyer to restore his sides lead.

Town are now finding themselves in serious trouble four points behind Aylesbury.

Town now face two difficult games at Beaconsfield on Saturday and North Greenford next Tuesday.
