Uxbridge 3 - Leighton Town 0

At a ground where they have never found it easy to get a result, Town went down to a 3-0 defeat despite a spirited performance, particularly in the first half.
Two goals, one early and one late in the second half sealed Town's fate but the home side showed why they were able to beat Conference side Dartford with a high intensity second half display that proved too much for Town.
Uxbridge started brightly with striker Matt Woods a constant threat with his pace and clever movement off the ball, but Town's defence coped well and they were much better when in possession than in some recent matches. Town had the best chance of the game in the 19th minute when a low cross by Jack Copson created a chance for Kerran Birch at the far post but he could not get a good contact and the chance was lost. Uxbridge then created a chance but Bates' low shot was well held by Bradley Kirkwood making his debut in the Leighton goal.
In the 27th minute the home side won 3 consecutive corners but Town defended them well and the danger was cleared. In the 32 nd minute Uxbridge created a golden opportunity but Bradley Kirkwood was equal to the shot with a superb save. Uxbridge broke quickly from defence and continued to create chances but Town stood firm under pressure and reached half time on level terms.
Towns hopes of keeping a clean sheet were undone in the 49th minute when a right wing cross reached the unmarked Carter and the Uxbridge skipper headed back across goal into the net to give the hosts an early lead. A few minutes later Carter put a clever lob just over the bar as the home side attacked again. Town's first chance of the half came when Ben Gallant volleyed high over the bar from outside the penalty area. In the 66th minute good inter play between Gallant and Craig Maisiri required McCarthy in the home goal to deflect Maisiri's shot over the bar to prevent Town from equalising. Uxbridge hit the post in their next attack and then Town's fate was sealed when Carter shot home after a scramble in front of the Town goal.
Uxbridge were well on top now and with 5 minutes left Woods put Uxbridge well clear when he drove the ball in after Leighton failed to clear the ball.
Nobody could deny that Uxbridge were deserved winners but Town's first half display showed some encouraging signs..
