Two second half goals earned the points for the Home side in an entertaining game on a wet Bank Holiday Monday. Both sides started well and played some attractive football and it was Barton who had the better of the chances - hitting a post - and an excellent header from Blackett crashing against the crossbar.
Town were reduced to 10 men when defender Kristian Stephens was sent - off for what was deemed to be denying a goal scoring opportunity - most thought the decision by the referee was harsh .
Despite their numerical disadvantage Town were the livelier of the sides at the start of the second period and substitute Nathan Olukanmi created a couple of chances which were spurned by the Visitors.
A mis-timed tackle in the box on speedy Barton winger Davis earned the hosts a clear penalty and former Town Player Kevin Kilroy scored despite a valient effort by 'keeper Bufton. This gave Barton confidence and they had a good spell of pressure but Town led by Hatch and Paul Brown stood firm. Sub Craig Maisiri had a couple of half chances for Town as they strove for an equaliser and Shayne Almond had an effort from outside the box which flew just over the Bar .
As they pressed forward 10 man Town were stretched at the back and Barton broke down the left and a precise ball across the box was met by the unmarked Holmes to score and seal the points for the Home side.
The sending-off obviousy changed the game and Manager Eaton was disgusted with the Referee.
However Town showed great grit and determination and with a bit of luck could have scored in the second half whilst on top for a short period.
Hatch, Jenkins, Paul Brown and ever improving Shayne Almond were best for Town and Olukanmi looks a good young prospect. Aston Goss showed some good touches and will get better when fully fit.
Town are home to Ware in the League next Sat - 3.00 pm .
