Points shared at Bell Close

This was most certainly a game of two halfs and Town Manager Mark Eaton was bitterly disappointed that all three points were not secured. The Home side started the brighter and went ahead on 16 minutes when debutant Shayne Almond struck a superb 35 yard rocket into the back of the net before visiting keeper Boyle could move. Almond then went close on a couple of occassions and hit the bar with a great effort following a free kick .

The Visitors had a couple of opportunities but Aareon Bufton in the home goal was never really troubled. On the stroke of half-time a great run down the left by Jack Harris set up Samson Alalade who doubled the lead with a great shot from close range.

Petersfield came out for the second half in a very positive mood and immediately took the game to Town. Joe Richardson rattled the bar and Bufton made a good save to preseve the lead. Jack Harris made a great run down the right but no Town player was able to make contact as the ball ran across the unattended six yard box. On the hour mark, Petersfield got a goal back when a mix up at the back let Green in to score - there was an element of handball in the move but this was missed by both Officials. Paul Brown at the back for Town had a great game as did James Hatch and thanks to some very poor finishing by Przespolewski the Petersfield centre forward who missed two open goals it looked as though Town would hold on for the win. However deep into time added on poor defending gave the Visitors a corner and from this they scrambled the equaliser. Even then Leighton had an opportunity at the death but the ball was cleared off the line and the points were shared .

Mark Eaton was saddened at squandering a two goal lead but his young side will learn from this and need to work harder for each other as the season progresses. Their is a great deal of talent in this squad and they will improve every game.
