as 16th placed Baldock Town proved to be defiant opposition worthy of their point shared.
Truth be told, it was a relatively non-descript game of football under a grey Bedfordshire sky. With Leighton not looking to have really got started, and Baldock battening down the hatches for a valuable point – the day had all the hallmarks of a gritty stalemate from the first whistle.
Six minutes in, Leon Lobjoit missed the first of a slew of chances for the visitors. Archie McClelland did well to fire in a cross from the left, yet Lobjoit was unfortunate to get underneath it as the ball looped over the bar.
On 15’, birthday boy Luke Pyman fired over before on 18’, Lewis Toomey forced a fine tipped save from Baldock’s Josh Mollison. Admittedly, it was the best chance of the first period.
In the second half, Mollison was back in action as he continued to save his team. On the hour mark, McClelland was through on goal down the right. Mollison made himself big to parry excellently. Three minutes later, he’d be less fazed as McClelland blasted over.
After this, Leighton’s run ins with the ref reflected the state of play as the hosts frustrated their opposition. On 70’, Jason Beck was in the book. On 78’, it was Ben Spaul before 88’ saw Oran Jackson see yellow too.
The final whistle arrived with celebration from the hosts. A tired Town had to settle for a point and now look to Tuesday to rejuvenate low spirits after a busy week with a trip to Crawley Green.
