Leighton Town went top of the Spartan on Saturday, with victory against tenth placed Potton United.

This one looked set to be a stalemate, but Leon Lobjoit gave the game some life with his exquisite chip, sending the 483 fans home happy.
Town started in energetic fashion and thought they’d forced a penalty just 17 minutes in. The ball looked to strike a Potton hand but the referee was unmoved. Before the halftime break, an elusive deadlock breaker just wouldn’t come. On 37’, Potton’s keeper had his work cut out as Jake Tabor, then Archie McClelland forced a fine double save that kept things even.
After half time Town finally got their goal and what a goal it was. Latching on to a long ball down the left wing, Lobjoit watched the ball over his shoulder and caught the keeper in no man’s land – lobbing the ball in perfectly. This was an astounding 47th goal for the striker in all competitions.
In what ended a scrappy game, a piece of sheer class was the difference maker. After this, Town moved top of the league – level on points with (but with less games than) Stotfold. The next game for Leighton comes on Tuesday night, as the side go to Arlesey Town in the league.

LTFC XI: Comas; Connolly (C), Folarin, Beck, Pyman, Towell, Spaul, McClelland, Lobjoit, Tabor.

Subs: Toomey, Robins, Seabrook, Hutchins, Jackson.
