With regulars returning following Thursday night’s cup defeat to Stotfold, Town started the game at The Recreation Ground well. James Towell’s shot wide on 7’ was a little speculative, but that combined with Oran Jackson’s header smacking the crossbar three minutes later, had the Magpies flapping to clear early on. Aside from a Stephen Dodd strike for the hosts chalked off for offside on 16’, the rest of the half continued goalless.
After the break, Kwai Marsh-Brown’s fleet footed dribbling caused havoc for his marker and cutting back inside onto his right, he was unlucky to see his effort matched by Liam Studley at his bottom left corner.
Ten minutes later on 65’, the deadlock was broken through James Towell. As has become much a common theme since his arrival, Kyle Connolly whipped in a great cross from the left. Archie McClelland kept it alive from the right and Towell was in the right place to tap in.
Travelling Town would get their second goal after yet another ten-minute interval. This time, substitute Ronan Hutchins won the ball back well and found Leon Lobjoit to convert with relative ease
The home side managed to get one back through Jamaal Radway, yet 82 minutes was too little too late as the visitors ultimately left the Recreation Ground with the three points. Leighton now sit in second place and look to continue fine league form when London Colney are welcomed to Bell Close next Saturday.
