In this 2-0 win, goals came from Luke Pyman and an inform Arche McClelland in front of 413 at Bell Close.
Goal threat Leon Lobjoit came close to opening the scoring 18 minutes in as he hit the post with an audacious lob. Although it was odd to see it not come off, Leon’s miss didn’t halt momentum and Luke Pyman found the net just three minutes later.
Kyle Connolly whipped in a signature corner from the right and Pyman hopped up – nonchalantly flicking home his header at the near post.
Leighton were in a good period now and just a short while later Archie McClelland scored a goal that was perhaps the poster child of recent excellent form. Latching on to a miskick from the Tring keeper, McClelland floated the ball in from a ridiculous 35-yards.
In the second half, Leighton tried to add more to the score, yet missed the same impetus as the first period. On 52’, there was no one on the end of a tempting Reece Robins cross. On 68’, McClelland took a ropey touch denying him his second. Aside from a late spree of bookings, the game ended much as it had at the end of the action-packed first half.
Now, all attention turns to next week as the FA Vase adventure continues at home to Fakenham Town.
