This time prevailing against Aylesbury Vale Dynamos, goals came from Leon Lobjoit and Archie McClelland in an admittedly very scrappy Spartan game.
Early on, the visitors tried to catch Town out. Forward Dan Lambeth was one-on-one with Xavi Comas on 16’, but the keeper blocked superbly. This save would serve ever-important as up the other end, Leon Lobjoit grabbed the lead on 24’. On the left edge of the box, the striker fizzed it low and left keeper Archie Davis rooted – his effort found the bottom right exceptionally.
Despite conceding, Aylesbury ended the first strongly and pulled one back just two minutes before the break. Dynamos built on a dangerous spell after a deflected shot was deflected behind. From the resulting corner, Leighton failed to clear and Max Rosner was on hand to slam home his first senior goal.
Gaffer Lee Bircham clearly must’ve said something, as after the break Town were near-instantly back in front. Reece Robins on the right put in an extraordinary cross on 48’. Archie McClelland flew in and produced a fine diving header up into the top right corner.
Following this, the game fell into a scrappy spell. This was especially noticeable in the centre of the park as Town managed to see out the 2-1 in the final 30 minutes. After this one, Leighton’s next opponents are Tring Athletic at home on Saturday.
