Goals came courtesy of Archie McClelland and a double from the dangerous Leon Lobjoit.
Lee Bircham’s side started as they meant to go on. Archie McClelland scored in the first minute seemingly before the club’s Twitter admin could get his phone out. A cross wasn’t dealt with, and a Leighton header hit the post. McClelland tapped in the rebound.
After more pressure, McClelland would also be involved in the second goal. An excellent passing move set him free down the left on 25’. His shot was saved by Alex Desmond but kindly fell to Leon Lobjoit who couldn’t have had an easier finish. The tricky Reece Robins, who had also been key to Leighton’s offensive prowess thus far, nearly got on the scoresheet before the break. A low shot from range, pinged off the base of the left post.
In the second half, the hosts looked to build on a dominant start. On 63’, Lewis Toomey nearly scored Town’s third, yet the Harpenden defence did well to scramble his slow deflected effort off the line.
Leighton kept up the pressure on the Harps’ goal, and a series of good moves and crosses eventually culminated in the third and final goal. On 94’, Lobjoit was played through. Winning the footrace comfortably, he powered past Desmond into the bottom left to seal a solid performance and his 27th goal in all competitions.
After this, Leighton look to this weekend’s action. This is the exciting clash away at Saffron Walden, where Town look to continue their FA Vase run on Saturday.
