This SSMFL fixture in front of 403 fans bear witness to an early goal from Reece Robins before Leverstock responded well through Ethan Mooney.
Opening the scoring on 12 minutes, Kyle Connolly whipped in a typically brilliant corner on the right and Reece Robins headed in at the far post from close range. Seemingly undeterred, Leverstock attempted to reply quickly. Chris Blunden was clean through on 17’, but Xavi Comas provided a fine tip over to keep the lead intact.
Up the other end, Austin Byfield pulled out an equally top save to deny Leon Lobjoit on the half hour. Six minutes later that save would prove even more important as the away side got one back. Brian Testolin broke away and his shot was saved by Comas. Ethan Mooney tucked away the rebound to make it 1-1.
The second half reflected a scrappy period of play. Yellow cards were rife. Three were given out to Blunden, McGleish and Leighton’s Kyle Connolly in seemingly quick succession. After this, both sides continued searching for the winning goal. Robins barely tested Byfield on 67’, before Leverstock actually had the ball in the Town net. Luckily for Town, Testolin’s goal was chalked off for hand ball.
More half chances came and went for both teams but it ended level. Discipline proved to take centre stage – Leverstock manager Fergus Moore’s late red card perhaps summed things up. Honours even, Leighton now continue fourth in the table. The next challenge is at home again – this time against Colney Heath next Saturday.
