From the outset, Town looked much the better side as Leon Lobjoit squandered a number of opportunities. First he had a chip go just wide before heading over on 12’. Then a spectacular looping bicycle kick was just too high and found the roof of the net.
These were positive signs and Town eventually took the lead with an excellent Reece Robins goal on the half hour. After a switch of play, Robins cut in from the left. He turned his marker inside and out before smashing home a ferocious effort that benefitted from a little deflection on its way.
In the second half, Town continued strongly and even five minutes in forced a fine goal line clearance from their visitors. Despite these defensive heroics, New Bradwell couldn’t offer much up the other end and Lee Bircham’s men grabbed their second not long after this. On 58’, Lewis Toomey locked on to a marvellous floated ball over the top from Robins to head into the left side of the goal.
Aside from Kyle Connolly being dismissed for an expletive dressing down of the night’s official, Town strolled to the win. With their place in the next round of the Gladwish secured, Leighton now have league action up next as Hoddesdon Town arrive at Bell Close this Saturday.
