Town Win at Tring

Town Win at Tring

Andrew Parker20 Sep 2021 - 19:32

Leighton made the short trip to Tring on Saturday and returned with all 3 points after a hat trick from Ashton Campbell and a goal from Danny Webb ensured the hosts remain at the bottom of the table.

Kicking down the slope Town took the lead in the 2nd minute when Ashton Campbell chased a pass from Luke Dunstan lobbed the ball over the home keeper and then ran round him to slide the ball into an empty net.
On a dry and bumpy pitch the game was fairly even but Town had more of the possession but could not add to their early score.
After 30 minutes Luke Dunstan looked a possible scorer but after he beat 2 players in the box from a good position dragged his shot wide of the near post.
After 60 minutes a quick throw from Campbell on the left saw Ross Adams head the ball past his opponent but his right footed shot went just over the crossbar. Shortly after this Tring were reduced to 10 men when Butler was shown the Red Card after a lunge into the back of Jordon Frederick’s legs.
Town’s defence looked comfortable enough whenever the hosts tried to build up any attacks but in the 75th minute Tring looked as if they might score an equaliser but a terrific low save by keeper Connor Coulson preserved Town’s lead.
Town played some good football to provide a good chance for Oran Swales but his shot lacked the necessary power to seriously trouble the home keeper, Saunders. A through ball then put Danny Webb clear and his shot rolled into the net to double Leighton’s lead despite the keeper’s efforts.
With 4 minutes to play Ashton Campbell confidently stroked a low shot into the net for his second and then just before the final whistle the striker scored his third with a similar effort.
After the disappointment of losing at home to Harpenden last Saturday this has been a good week for Leighton with 6 points gained from 2 potentially tricky away games. Town are now 3 points clear of Harpenden at the top of the table.
