Town badly needed to get back to winning ways on Tuesday against a Leverstock side who have started the season in decent form. Dave Murphy and James Towell were missing through injury but Ethan Flanagan and Luke Dunstan returned to the side.
Both teams looked eager to attack in the opening stages and the hosts kicking down the slope had a chance in the 25th minute but Connor Coulson made a fine save. In the 30th minute the hosts took the lead when the Town defence failed to clear the ball and Lawford drove the ball high into the net. A fine move by Town moved the ball the length of the pitch but Danny Webb's left footed shot went across the goal. A few minutes before half time Leverstock got a second when a long ball towards the penalty area saw some hesitation in the Town defence which allowed a Leverstock player to head over keeper Coulson before sliding the ball home to double the hosts lead.
In the 53rd minute Tom Silford chased a long ball down the left flank and out muscled a Leverstock defender before cutting inside and scoring with a right footed effort. Town were looking the better of the two sides at this stage and equalised when Ross Adams scored in the 65 minute with a controlled finish from about 15 yards after the ball was laid across the penalty area. Danny Webb then surged past 2 defenders but his powerfully struck shot was tipped over by the Leverstock keeper. Town deservedly took the lead in the 82 minute when Tom Silford ran forcefully down the flank and produced a great cross to Ashton Campbell who headed home from close range.
After an indifferent first half Town deserved the win for their strong second half display. They now face an away game on Saturday at Tring.
