With league action seemingly on-hold at the moment, it was more Cup football for the Town as they travelled to the artificial surface of Oxford City, to face Long Crendon in the Second Round Qualifying of the Buildbase FA Vase.

Joe Sweeney and Paul Copson were looking to progress further in the competition, after last Saturday’s FA Cup exit.
Town lined up as follows: Petal, Bryant, Silford, Donkor, Davison-Gordon, Fredericks (C), Webb, Towell, Murrell, McClelland, Campbell.
It was Long Crendon who had the first chance of the game with Scott Chappell heading wide from close range.
Despite the hosts earlier opportunity, Town room the lead through a very special strike! Captain for the afternoon, Jordon Fredericks, took a touch and struck one from around 30 yards and it arrowed into the top left corner!
Town continued to ramp up the pressure on Long Crendon as Danny Webb was denied from close range with a header, that was pained away brilliantly by Collingwood.
Shortly after, Town were given a penalty when Aaron Murrell was brought down in the box.
Jordon Fredericks stepped up to double the score line and his tally for the game, but his penalty was saved by Collingwood and Fredericks then blazed the rebound over the bar.
The action just wouldn’t stop at Court Place Farm, as Long Crendon had a goal disallowed. Ex-Town man, Martin Griggs, had the ball in the net after an alleged ‘spill’ from Kev Petal. Despite the referee giving it initially, after a chat with his linesman, it was ruled out.
Aaron Murrell was then denied smartly by Collingwood who continued to keep his side in the game.
But, just a few moments later, Town extended their lead.
Ashton Campbell drove down the left hand side and cut in past his defender and slotted it past the goalkeeper. Looked to take a deflection, but it’s one for Ashton’s tally this season!
Town then made a change just before half time. Danny Webb coming off for Kuda Butawo.
The Second Half didn’t start as frenetically as the First ended, but it certainly got their eventually.
Archie McClelland has 2 chances in quick succession, but both sailed past the post.
But his hard work just after the 60th minute, put Town 3 to the good. He did well to cut the ball back across goal to Kuda Butawo, who tucked it home from close range.
James Towell and Archie McClelland made way shortly after for Brian Foulger and a first town appearance for Ben Pattie.
The latter was soon into the thick of the action, having a go from the edge of the box, but saw his effort go wide.
The 70th minute struck and there was still time for 4 goals and a missed penalty.
The first goal put Town 4-0 up. Kuda Butawo found Aaron Murrell in the box, who fired it home into the right side of the goal.
Long Crendon then pulled a goal back. Alex Hall tapped home into the empty net, after Kev Patel made an initial save. Town switching off, sitting on a 4 goal cushion.
That 4 goal cushion was made 3 by that Long Crendon goal, but not long after it was back to the fantastic 4!
Aaron Murrell getting his second of the afternoon after great work by Tom Silford, who fed Murrell in the box and he blasted a shot into the roof of the net. 5-1, Town relatively home and dry with just 5 minutes normal time to go.
But, there was still time for drama in Oxford. A race not quite as eye-catching as the Boat Race, saw Butawo chasing Griggs who broke away. Butawo lunged in to try and stop the former Town man scoring, which resulted in a penalty for the hosts. Captain, Nathan Brownsword, stepped up and slotted it into the bottom right corner, to make the gap just 3 goals again.
Town continued to switch off late on and they gave away another penalty in stoppage time, the third penalty of the game.
Martin Griggs stepped up for this one and saw his penalty saved by Patel, who guessed right.
A game on a Sunday at 1PM. Three penalties, one scored. One goal disallowed. Seven goals. An FA Vase win at a Step 2 ground. All in a good days work for Town, as they progress through to the First Round Proper of this year’s Buildbase FA Vase.
Not the greatest performance ever from Town, but a convincing one nevertheless, as they go into the hat for tomorrow’s draw!
Next up for the Town is a return to league action after 5 weeks away from it, as they travel up the road to Willen Road, as they face Newport Pagnell Town.
We hope to see you there!
