3 weeks without any football can prove costly for a teams form (especially with mince pies and turkey to be eaten at the same time),

but that didn’t seem to be the case for the Town as they travelled over to Creasey Park to take on Dunstable Town.

Spirits were high amongst the massive following of Town supporters, as the boys came out in their new yellow and black away strip, for the final game of 2019!
Neither team came out the traps quickly, however, Brad Kirkwood made one or two comfortable early saves.
With the surface not bad considering the weather of late, both teams tried to play football in the final third.
James Towell and Ben Pattie saw efforts go past the woodwork after 15 minutes.
Then came Town’s best chance of the game. On the 27th minute, Archie McClelland cut inside, opened himself up and curled a strike towards the far corner. It cannoned off of the woodwork and out for a goal kick.
7 minutes later though, Town did take the lead!
The hosts’ goalkeeper looked to play out from the back, but passed straight to the feet of Danny Webb. He looked up and finished with ease into the empty net! 0-1, and another goal for Town’s talisman.
Shortly after Town’s opener, Ben Pattie tried his luck after an audacious touch out of the sky, but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Just before half time, James Towell entered the book and Hankins’ of the hosts had a free-kick well saved by Kirkwood.
A solid first half performance from the Town, but still work to do in the second period.
The opening 10 minutes saw Town on the front foot, with Pattie and Webb testing the goalkeeper on separate occasions.
From the resulting corner of Webb’s effort, Dunstable were gifted an opportunity. Fredericks’ poor pass was intercepted and the hosts broke with pace. They averted a challenge and got one-on-one with Kirkwood, who denied them with a fine finger tip save! A brilliant stop to keep it at 1-0!
Town looked to soak up a little Dunstable pressure, but they couldn’t create any clear cut chances.
James Towell tried his luck from range mid-way through the second period and forced the keeper into a fine save.
Jordon Fredericks was then replaced by Tom Bryant, as Sweeney and Copson looked to inject some more energy into the centre of the park for the latter stages.
Then, just after the 70th minute mark, Dunstable were awarded a penalty. A foul by Billy Baird at the far post, saw the referee point to the spot.
But they couldn’t find a way past Kirkwood, who got down low and made a fantastic save with a strong palm!
On 75 minutes, Ben Pattie was replaced by Sonny Newbury-Barr, as Town looked to see out the remainder of the game.
See it out they did, but in some style!
With the game entering its final 10 minutes, they made it 2! Billy Baird’s great work on the right allowed him to drill a pass across the face of goal and there was Archie McClelland to finish with ease at the far post! A goal to give Town much more of a cushion with 10 minutes to go.
However, the boys in yellow had gone hungry not playing for 3 weeks, so they went for a 3rd and they got it!
Just a minute later and after McClelland’s low drive was saved, substitute Sonny Newbury-Barr fired home from the rebound! His first goal for the club, to make it comfortable for the Town!
Tom Silford was then replaced by Brian Foulger. Foulger finally making his return from injury, after over 2 months out!
McClelland had a chance in the dying embers to make it 4, but his shot was snuffed out well by the keeper.
Town wrapped up the year and the decade in style, with 3 goals and a very solid performance away at their rivals.
A clean sheet as well, which was down to the fantastic efforts of Brad Kirkwood, who made some massive saves, including one from a penalty!
Another 3 points, which sees Town stretch their unbeaten run to 13 games.
Thank you for your brilliant support. We’re not back in action until the 7th of January, when we welcome Buckingham United to Bell Close in the Bucks Charity Cup.
So, we wish all of you a very happy new year and we can’t wait to kick off 2020 at Bell Close!
