In a well contested and entertaining encounter Leighton gave a much improved performance after their game against Crawley Green the previous Saturday.

On a heavy pitch both sides tried to pass the ball around and Leighton started at a good tempo. Despite making a few changes due to injury and unavailability. Town looked comfortable and they deservedly took the lead when Lea Coulter from just inside the right edge of the area slotted a low across the keeper and into the far side of the net in the 27th minute.

The hosts created a couple of chances but Leighton looked reasonably comfortable at the back until just before half time when the hosts were awarded a free kick which was driven into the penalty area and Town failed to clear the ball which was scrambled into the net for Leverstock’s equaliser.

Kicking down the slope in the second half Town were still on the front foot and they regained the lead when Alex OBrien fired a rocket into the net from about 30 yards after some slick passing.

Three minutes later the game was effectively won when James Hatch scored a third for Town and they were able to maintain the 2 goal gap until the end of 90 minutes.

Despite the competitive nature of the game Referee, Kieran Haywood was always in charge of proceedings and he helped keep the game flowing which added to the entertainment aspect.

A good all round performance from Town who now travel with confidence to Staffordshire for their Fa Vase match against Wolverhampton SC.
