Town thoroughly deserved the points in a tough physical encounter last Tuesday.

The hosts started strongly and put Leighton under a bit of pressure with some very slick passing and good use of their speedy forwards. Despite this, they rarely got any telling efforts on goal.

Leighton took some time to settle but when they did they played some excellent football and created some good scoring opportunities.
Disappointingly they didn't capitalise on their dominance. The home keeper made a great save from an Alex O'brien free kick when just before the half-time whistle, following a scramble in the Hoddesdon box, James Hatch shot firmly home to give Leighton the lead.

Neither side was able to create any good scoring opportunities as the second period progressed but Leighton looked the more dangerous and got a deserved second from Alex O'Brien following some good work by Lewis McBride.

Hoddesdon then had their best period but stout defending by Tom Guiney and Dave Murphy ensured that Tom Wyant in the visitors goal was rarely troubled.

A rare lapse with 10 minutes to ago let the hosts get a goal back but instead of being under pressure Leighton kept going forward and were unlucky not to score a third.

A hard worked well earned win for Leighton which takes them up to joint fourth on points in the League, and they can go to Tring on Saturday with confidence for the local derby and look forward to the Vase game at Burnham Ramblers on the
21st October.
