New season: new challenges: new opportunities

New season: new challenges: new opportunities

Andrew Parker5 Jul 2024 - 11:56

A short message from our Chair Sean Downey as the new season approaches:

Pre-season training is now in full swing, and the First Team have a 'behind close doors' training game against our friends and former rivals from Tring Athletic on Saturday. Please understand that this is not a game for spectators, but feel free to come and meet the players and management team from 4pm at the club and watch the England v Switzerland game. Food will be available for purchase from our excellent new caterer throughout the afternoon and evening.
We are looking forward to welcoming all our fantastic supporters back to Bell Close on Saturday 13 July when we entertain AFC Rushden and Diamonds in our first formal pre-season friendly. A reminder that season tickets are not eligible for use at pre-season friendlies. However, entry prices are reduced as below.

Adult: £5
Concession: £3
12-17: £2
11 and under: free

It has been a very busy close season period at Bell Close. Significant work has taken place to address the ground grading requirements to secure our place in Step 4 football. The new entrance/turnstiles look superb, changing rooms are fully extended, medical and laundry rooms refurbished, new food cabin constructed and fitted and pitch widened. All ready, bar a few final finishing touches, in 7 weeks for the new campaign! This has been hugely challenging and costly, but our small volunteer committee has worked tirelessly to make the necessary changes and attract the significant investment required to keep the club moving forward. A huge thanks to them, and to all our generous and supportive partners/sponsors who have helped make this possible. Sincere thanks too, to our contractors, who have been first class: shout outs to come on social media over the coming weeks

The club ‘work day’ last Saturday was a great success with around 15 hardy volunteers helping to get the clubhouse and ground ready for the new season. The spirit was fantastic and my sincere thanks to all our volunteers who contribute so much to our club.

We enter the new season with optimism. The First Team Management Team have worked very hard, in a challenging environment, to secure the services of some exciting, experienced, new players and retain the strong core of last season's squad. The Development Team under new manager Paul Reed, and the U18s under new manager Enzo Silvestri, have also been hard at work recruiting, training and preparing for the new season. There is a great buzz around the club and we look forward to the new season and to seeing you all soon, as we once again dare to dream again!

Warmest wishes to all

Sean on behalf of the Executive Committee at Leighton Town FC
