in support of one of our local, volunteer partner charities, Hospice at Home.
It was a huge success! After a superb lunch provided by our in-house caterer, Jennie Shaw and family, Jacquie Dixon and John Canepa from Hospice at Home gave a talk about the work of their organisation. It was both moving and inspiring! Supporting local people suffering from life limiting illnesses and their families is at the very heart of the work of Hospice at Home. We are delighted to announce that we were able to raise and incredible £4,700 to support the important work that this amazing local, volunteer charity carry out across our local community. Chairman of the Leighton Buzzard John Canepa sent the following message to the club this week:
"It may have been a wet, miserable and cold day for the match and our arrival, but the warm reception Jacquie and I received from Sean and the club members more than made up for it. The financial generosity of the members was truly magnificent and humbling, we were both absolutely overwhelmed. This generosity was equally matched by the many offers of help with publicising Hospice At Home, an area that we struggle with and is vital to make more people aware of what we do and to help signpost help.
Thanks does not begin to express our deep gratitude to Sean and everyone else but it is heartfelt and meaningful and we convey those thanks, on behalf of our clients to everyone.
And a special mention for the crumble and custard which was especially delicious! “
Town Chairman Sean Downey said: "It was an honour to welcome Jacquie and John from 'Hospice at Home' to the club on Saturday. It is clear by the response of our many sponsors, members and guests who were in attendance, that they were, like me, both humbled and inspired by the incredible work these volunteers do every day in our local community. Saturday was an example of a community football club in action. Not just words but deeds! I am very proud of what we, as a football club, are doing on this front and thank everyone who contributed to Saturday's hugely successful event.
