Leighton Town 2 Risborough Rangers 2
The visitors struck first with a excellent goal from their lively centre forward who left the home teams defence in disarray with a quick burst and slick finish. This knocked Leighton out of their stride for a while and the game struggled to find any sort of rhythm or cohesion.
Eventually Leighton found their feet and improved passing and possession led to chances being created on a more regular basis.
Leighton were never totally in control though and still looked a little apprehensive in defence, this led to some indecision that was instantly seized upon by the Risborough centre forward who added his second goal just before half time.
It is to the home sides credit that they did not let the rather harsh score line affect morale or confidence and the interval was used to renew determination to get back in the game.
Leighton started the second half on the front foot and managed this time to gain a territorial advantage over their opponents, possession was more consistent and a change in momentum was created in their favour.
George Armstrong danced past his marker and was brought down in the penalty area and was composed enough to pick himself up and score.
Leighton now believed the game was there to be won and continued to apply pressure on the visitors defence, Nathan Beck was having a fine game in midfield and Tom McCormick was surging into the space being created on the left flank.
Risborough resisted the pressure from the home team for as long as they could but eventually cracked by conceding another penalty which was won and converted by the rampant George Armstrong.
As expected this led to wave of Leighton attacks in search of the winner but the visiting goalkeeper did well and some half chances were either wasted or simply not taken.
Risborough were never out of the game though and a fantastic long range effort smashed against the cross bar and denied them the winner.
A good game that probably left both teams frustrated as both could make an argument that they should have won, shame that the young fans behind the goal could not match the excellent spirit between the two teams.
