SLOUGH TOWN 0 - 3 LEIGHTON TOWN
Leighton produced their best away performance of the season at Beaconsfield on Saturday to comprehensively defeat a Slough team who have secured runners up spot in the Evo Stik Central Division, but must now enter the ‘play- offs’ to win the second promotion
position.
Leighton made one change from the side that played so well at Uxbridge last week with Lewis McBride returning in place of Alex Bradley who started on the bench.
Leighton had the first shot of the game in the 11th minute but Enzo Silvestri’s effort went high over the bar and presented no danger to the home goal.Slough were awarded a free kick on their left in the 13th minute and when the ball was played in towards the Leighton goal Haydn Dodge left the ball thinking that it was going out of play , Slough knocked the ball back across the face of the town goal and it required a Sam Chapman clearance to remove the threat. A minute after this Paul Edgeworth fired in a shot from outside the area but this went a couple of feet over the Leighton bar. Leighton created a chance when Stuart Deaton clipped the ball forward and Ben Gallant ran forward before chipping the ball onto the top of the Slough crossbar. At this point in the game Town looked comfortable as they passed the ball around well and after a left wing cross Enzo Silvestri had a shot which the home keeper needed two attempts to catch. Slough next real threat came from a cross into the box but there was no attacking player near enough to get a touch. In the 37th minute from a left wing corner Stuart Deaton’s measured header towards the far post had to be cleared from the line by one of the Slough defenders. When the corner came over , the referee as he did so often on the day, penalised players for even minimal contact.
Town deservedly opened the scoring in the 53rd minute when Ross Hanley received a pass from the right and burst into the penalty area before firing a low left footed shot across the keeper and into the corner of the net. Soon after this Warrington did well to deal with a Lewis McBride free kick that took a high bounce off the pitch just in front of him. In the 70th minute Enzo Silvestri forced the keeper to make another save from his low shot as Town pressed for a second goal. Leighton were awarded a free kick in the 71st minute and when the ball was played in by Lewis McBride it was knocked back across the goal and Ben Gallant found himself unmarked and coolly slotted the ball into the far side of the Slough goal to double Town’s lead.
In the 77th minute Slough moved forward with purpose and were awarded a free kick which required Haydn Dodge to make a good save at his near post to preserve the two goal lead. A minute later Sinclair drove his shot wide of the Town post as the hosts at last seemed to take a reality check.
Town produced another chance in the 83th minute but Leon Simpson’s weak volley from 6yards went straight at the keeper who saved easily. With the clock showing 88minutes Leighton scored again, Ben Gallant received the ball wide on the right and ran to the goal line before delivering an excellent cross towards the far post where Leon Simpson was running in and the big striker made a good contact to score an excellent third for Leighton.
Leighton were the better team on the day and the hosts can have no complaints about the final score. Town played some excellent passing football and were seldom troubled in defence with Warrington in the Slough goal much the busier of the two keepers.

Leighton Manager, Craig Wells must have been delighted with his team’s display and he will be hoping his side can end their season with another win next week against a Northwood side who can still win a play-off place if they win and other results go their way.
