Leighton’s inconsistent League form continues to keep them near the foot of the table

Beaconsfield SYCOB 3 - 0 Leighton Town
Leighton’s inconsistent League form continues to keep them near the foot of the table after two basic defensive lapses cost them this game against a good Beaconsfield side containing some players with Conference experience. Three second half goals won the points for the hosts and their keeper was seldom troubled by a Town side that as an attacking force were never a serious threat.
After the midweek defeat against a strong St.Neots side Town made several changes to their line with Andre Maltay, Deji Ojuroye and Leon Simpson dropped to the bench. Charlie Cunningham was included in central defence with Sam Chapman moving to right back and Grant Fryer & Shane Bush were included in a 5 man midfield with just Ben Gallant up front.
The host started at a good tempo and put Town on the back foot but the Town defence looked solid enough against some very quick forwards. Leighton had plenty of possession but some poor passing put them on the back foot and stopped them creating very much going forward. Beaconsfield created some chances and they should have gone ahead in the 43rd minute when the ball was crossed from the right but with the goal open the ball was headed wide of the far post to Town’s relief. Just after this Town had an opportunity when Lewis McBride looked to get clear but under pressure from two defenders he was unable to get any real power into hi shot and the keeper was able to make a reasonably easy save to keep the scores level.
Town got off to the worst possible start in the second half when they conceded a goal in the very first minute after a break down the left saw the ball crossed into the middle where Mpi drove the ball past Kevin Marsh. The host then scored their second after a break down their right flank saw Town fail to clear their lines and the ball was squared across and Grayley had a simple 6 yard tap in to double the host’s lead. Any hopes Town had of getting anything from the game were completely removed 3 minutes later when they conceded a corner on their right after an attempted back pass went astray. When the corner was taken Page was left with an easy header from 9 yards to wrap up the result and the points.
Town looked well beaten at the end although they never gave up and they now have to lift themselves for their Beds Senior 7:45Cup game at AFC Dunstable on Wednesday at 7:45.
Team: Marsh, Chapman( Maltay), Bewley, Cunningham, Deaton, Fryer, McBride, Hanley, Gallant( Chambers), Hatch, Bush(Simpson). Other Subs. Clark(GK) Ojuroye
