After their fine win at Northwood on Saturday Town travelled to Hanwell on Tuesday night for a difficult game against a team who

are currently occupying 5th place in the Central Division.

Town made a couple of changes to Saturday’s line up with Gary Ridgway returning at left back and Danny Watson returned to partner Christian Lester in attack as Claude Seanla was unavailable due to work commitments.

The game started at a good tempo despite a tricky playing surface and both sides seemed keen to get forward when the opportunities were available. Town had the chance to take the lead in the 25th minute when Christian Lester chased a through ball but his well struck shot struck the outside of the post before going behind for a goal kick.

Five minutes after this Hanwell’s Ochoa struck a fierce right footed shot that looked to be dipping just under the crossbar but Zaki Oualah in the Town goal produced a superb flying save to tip the ball over the bar to keep the scores level. Town replied instantly and Phil Draycott had his shot saved at the foot of the post.

Towards the end of the half Hanwell seemed to be gaining confidence but Town defended well and the scores remained level at the break.

Town started well in the second half and had a great chance in the 54th minute when Danny Watson challenged the keeper for through ball which he won and then laid it off for Christian Lester but his shot was blocked by one of the two home defenders who were covering their goal.

In the 58th minute a superb break down the left by the Hanwell full back created a chance for the hosts but his cross was headed over the bar. Five minutes after this the hosts broke away again at pace but when the ball was crossed to the edge of the penalty area Ochoa drove his shot over the bar.

The host in their next attack drove a low cross in from the right but nobody got anywhere near the ball. In the73rd minute Hanwell won a free kick on their left and when the ball was driven towards goal it eluded everyone before hitting the far post before the follow up shot missed the target.

In the 74th minute Town introduced Chris Crook for Ashley Farmer and with a minute the sub had given Town the lead. Town broke down their left flank and Christian Lester crossed towards Danny Watson who facing away from goal cleverly back heeled the ball into the path of Crook who drove a fierce shot between the keeper and his near post to open the scoring. Despite a couple of late efforts by the hosts Leighton held on for their second away win in 4 days.

As a reward for their efforts Town will again need to be at their best in the next 10 days with three tough games in rapid succession against second placed Bedworth, leaders Kettering and 6th placed Barton.
