Leighton Town’s run of friendlies came to an end yesterday with victory against Aylesbury Vale Dynamos.

In this five-goal game, Luke Pyman, Albie Hall, and Louie Barrett were on target as the newly kitted out Red and Whites survived a mini comeback in front of 244 at bell Close.
The match began well for Town. Alfie Powell made instant inroads – firing over on nine minutes, before Luke Pyman opened the scoring. It was a great strike into the bottom left corner, following some determined work to win possession just inside the Dynamos box.

On 14’, Albie Hall made it 2-0. Louie Barrett provided excellent wing play on the right before finding an arriving Hall at the back post. He finished first time as the keeper found himself too flatfooted to get back across his line. The rest of the first period saw Town playing some good football, yet the few chances hardly threatened the keeper.

After the break, and a slow start to the second 45, the game burst into life again around 68 minutes. Dynamos grew into the game and managed to get in behind. Standing in their way though, was a defiant James Sage. Aylesbury’s no. 10 was in one-on-one but Sage recovered superbly with a last-ditch tackle.

Just after, despite those defensive efforts, the Greenfleets residents got one back. No. 10 was in again and although Xavi Comas made a fine save, the rebound was kind and fell right back to him for an easy finish. Town made amends as a long ball forward helped them back onto the score sheet. Louie Barrett latched on to it and slotted past the keeper to restore the smiles at Bell Close.

Aylesbury had one final say and ended the day with a brilliant strike. A cross from the right had Leighton floundering and no.15 produced a great volley up into the top left corner. Regardless, with this win - Town now go into the Southern League season with a boost of confidence. Before then, its FA Cup action against Basildon next Saturday at Bell Close.
