Leighton Town 2-3 Chesham United: Chesham prevail in higher league preseason test

Following on from Saturday’s away defeat, it was yet another five-goal game as Gary Flinn’s side picked up some valuable minutes.

Jake Watkinson continued to show impressive preseason glimpses as he opened the scoring on 18 minutes. He pressed the goalkeeper into a mistake and tapped home much to the delight of those in front of the clubhouse.

That delight was cut short less than ten minutes later as Chesham restored parity with Shaq Hippolyte-Patrick smashing home from close range. Just before the break, the away team pushed in front through their trialist. He got the ball out of his feet nicely on the left before curling into the bottom right corner.

The second half saw Town get one back as Charlie Pattison slid one after a burst down the right on 58 minutes. Showing their class however, Chesham reacted well from the restart and retook the lead with Karl Oliyide’s first touch from the bench. A Chesham corner wasn’t dealt with by Town and Oliyide latched onto a free header to power home easily.

After this, all Leighton could muster were half chances and Chesham pulled out seven subs to refresh and see this one out under the Bedfordshire drizzle. Leighton Town are back in action on Saturday against Biggleswade United at Bell Close.
