Leighton Town 1 – 1 Leverstock Green

Leighton Town drew with Leverstock Green last night after a determined battle under the lights. 304 people went to Bell Close hoping for momentum to continue from the weekend, but unfortunately in a gritty battle - the Reds could only muster a point.
A talking point before the game was of an international note, as Leighton welcomed a groundhopper from Norway. Usually, Leighton’s home is the perfect place to get the non-league fix but sadly it wouldn’t seem like that today. Leverstock had the ball in the net before it was ruled offside. Then, the game filtered out into a drab opening 25 minutes.
The next thing of note wouldn’t be counting how many goals had been scored but actually, balls lost. By 32’, it had been three that succumbed to a good hoofing. Half time signalled a hardly very worldly performance in what was a very quiet half for both teams.
The second period started way brighter as Leighton stepped up the pressure. Just minutes in to the second 45, the deadlock would be broken – and in some fashion too. On 53’, a ball was floated invitingly in from the right and Bill Morgan flew to nod a towering header past Alfie Bonfield in the Leverstock goal.
With Town on top, the lead was nearly doubled. Another powerful header, this time from Brian Foulger. Alas, it whizzed narrowly over. That could’ve debatably been the game right there had that gone in and now Leverstock seemed rejuvenated in their survival.
After another quiet period best summarised as a battle in the middle of the park, the visitors eventually took a hold of possession. Breaking up the pitch with an accurate through ball, Leverstock were through. The exuberant Rawn Seale had a bit to do but managed to chip Connor Coulston to level the game up with ten minutes to go.
That ten minutes came and went and this game of minimal chances concluded 1-1. For Leighton, Bircham’s men stay in fourth. Leverstock are in eighth place. This weekend there is no game but service resumes on the 16th, when Milton Keynes Irish pay Bell Close a visit.
