MATCH REPORT Hadley FC 3-0 Leighton Town

Attentions will be swiftly moving on to the County Cup Final for Leighton Town, after the league season concluded with a whimper away at third place Hadley.
It was a consummate display from the Brickfields Lane regulars and they started the game as they meant to go on. Just seven minutes in, Jordan Edwards latched on to a through ball and slotted past Connor Coulson in the Leighton net.
Hadley would nearly have another on 12’, but Coulson was more aware this time – tipping over smartly. Up the other end, it would be a case of half chances. On 15’ a corner was floated in and Leon Lobjoit rose best. Unfortunately, his header skewed wide.
It would seem an important chance just five minutes later as the hosts then doubled their lead. Ed Davis was tricky on the wing, supplying a ball in for the dangerous Edwards. It wouldn’t be his second though, as the header crashed off the crossbar, but Solomon Ofori was on hand to smash home the rebound.
On 35’, Leighton thought they’d got one back from a well-executed corner routine, but the ref strangely blew the other way for an alleged foul on the goalkeeper which no-one else appeared to see.
In the second half, the Reds’ had another good chance. Lobjoit was in one-on-one and with keeper Luke Ward rushing out, his attempted lob flew over. Yet again, it would be another missed effort to rue.
On 52’, Hadley would get their third goal. Luke Alfano was the scorer, following a ball into the box which was not cleared. The forward struck sweetly on the turn, beating Coulston at the near post.
Hadley had all but sealed it, but the last real action of note in this one was the award of a Leighton penalty. Tom Milton was sinbinned but keeper Luke Ward made up for the lax defending – saving Leon Lobjoit’s effort. It just about summed up Leighton’s day.
The game finished, as did the Spartan season. As said, for fourth place Town, attention’s turn to an exciting trip to Kenilworth Road where Bedford Town, champions of the Southern Central Division, await in the County Cup Final.
