MATCH REPORT Leighton Town 2-2 Milton Keynes Irish

After ten days without a game, Leighton Town drew with MK Irish 2-2 in what was the last home game of the season. 430 people came out to Bell Close in yet another great example of the support received this season. The average home crowd has been recorded at 404.
Leighton started the game well and could’ve taken the lead early on. On 11’, Ross Adams forced a great save from Jack Taylor after a close range header. Duncan Culley squandered a guild-hitched opportunity. His effort on an open goal rattled the crossbar 15 minutes in. The hosts had another good chance a few minutes later, this time through the returning Leon Lobjoit. His effort was craftily turned around the post by the alert Taylor.
It looked like it would be a scoreless half, but Leighton kept on pushing. Lobjoit was ever present, coming back from a brief stint at Newport Pagnell. Played in on 43’, the pacey striker slotted skilfully into the bottom right corner to give Town a deserved lead going into the break.
In the second half, Leighton continued the momentum and it took less than ten minutes to double the lead. It was Leon Lobjoit again, latching on to another good ball in behind. He connected well and buried his volleyed effort in the corner.
Despite being down by two, MK didn’t give in. To their credit they got themselves right back in the mix just three minutes after Leighton’s second. Andre Olukanmi provided a smart lay off for George Boland to hit first time and his attempt flew past Connor Coulston to drag one back.
The Reds nearly cancelled this out with Brian Foulger on 59’. His attempt from a header just glanced past the post. It would be frustrating for the home side when MK eventually got their leveller on 70 minutes.
It all came from a counterattack. Dom Lawless then picked up the ball and fed in Olukanmi, a man who’d already been involved in a goal, and he slotted calmly past Coulston to tie things up.
The closing stages saw little action and MK Irish had battled back for a valuable point. Now, Leighton’s next game is away at Broadfields Town on Monday the 18th as Bircham’s side look to cement fourth spot.
