Leighton Town 2 – 1 Ardley United

On Saturday, victory against Ardley United saw Leighton Town move up to third in the table - as two Campbells were in action to score capping off a consummate 2-1 display.
Despite an enthusiastic 333-strong home crowd, admittedly the visitors started brightest – having the majority of the slim half chances on offer.
Half chances epitomised much of the first period before Leighton upped the ante. The first action from the home team saw Bill Morgan go into the book for a poor challenge on 38 minutes.
Then, before the half was out Bonham’s men broke the deadlock.
Following good movement up the pitch, Town won a free kick in a dangerous position. Quick thinking and a smart sideways pass led to Ashton Campbell hammering home to make it 1-0.
In the second half it didn’t take the away side long to respond. 55 minutes in, Leighton failed to clear a bouncing ball following a set piece.
After a knock down back into the six-yard box, Jacob Blackstock slammed it past a helpless Conor Coulston to draw level.
Town responded well and almost instantly regained the lead. Brian Foulger’s header was agonisingly cleared off the line.
On 61 minutes, new player Jervon Campbell came on for Archie McClelland and within 10 minutes he had a part to play in the action with two striking efforts.
The first attempt was a powerful shot saved well by the keeper. At the second time of asking minutes later, the new man had his first goal for the club.
After a fantastic box-to-box run from a tireless Luke Pyman, the midfielder sweetened the deal with an excellent cross for James Towell. His effort was saved and Campbell was there to clean up the pieces – tucking his shot from the left into the bottom right corner.
Town saw out the last 15 minutes and despite a Joe Fitzgerald sinbin it was a relatively routine end toa great all-round performance. Now, attentions turn to a Tuesday night trip to Aylesbury Vale Dynamos.
