Leighton Town – Player Profiles



Lee Clark. Goalkeeper
Returned in pre-season for his second spell with the Club after playing some of last season with Berkhamsted Town. Originally signed in 2004 by Paul Burgess, his first season saw him pick up the Supporters and Players Player Awards. Great shot stopper whose previous other Clubs include Brentford, St.Albans, Farnborough and Wembley.

Steve Root. Goalkeeper
Local lad who has over 10 years experience playing local football. Great handler of the ball and a character in the dressing room.

Peter Clifford. Defender, Assistant Manager and Club Captain
Peter was signed from Chesham in the summer of 2005. A great leader both on and of the pitch Peter has spent the majority of his career playing at a higher level for the likes of Aylesbury Utd, Berkhamsted Town, Bishop Stortford and Beaconsfield SYCOB. He was also made club captain which has proved to be a great help to the younger players. Was last season’s Players Player of the Year.


Sam Chapman. Defender
Strong defender signed from Berkhamsted in the summer of 2005. Previous clubs include Hemel Hempstead and Exeter University. Had an excellent 05-06 season and formed a formidable partnership with Peter Clifford. Missed all of the 06-07 season due to a cruciate ligament injury and made his return to football at the end of last season.

Liam Howley. Defender
Re-joined the club in the summer of 2007 having been at University and playing for Matlock Town in the Northern Premier in the 06-07 campaign. Skillful defender who likes to bring the ball out from the back.

Leon Cashman. Defender / Midfield / Striker
Versatile left footed player who signed from Barton Rovers last season. Has previously played for Wootton Blue Cross and Hitchin.

James Lasbrey. Defender / Midfield
Signed in the summer after re-locating back to the area. Played for Tooting and Mitcham in the Ryman Premier last season. Had played for our U18’s in the 90’s.

James McNulty. Defender / Midfield
James is now in his 5th season with the Club. He is a versatile player who can play in the back four or in midfield and will always give 100%. A likable lad with both player’s and supporters.





Jack Copson. Defender / Midfield
A left sided defender or midfielder who is in his 2nd spell with the Club after returning last season from a stint with Berkhamsted Town. Has a powerful left foot which makes him dangerous at set pieces.


Scott Thomas. Midfield
Aged 18. He has represented the county schools numerous times and last season just missed out on getting into the England Schoolboys Squad getting down to the last 30 boys. Has risen from Leighton Town’s youth system very quickly to establish himself as a regular first team member. A talented midfielder play maker who has a bright future and recently had a weeks trial at Cardiff City playing in two reserve games.


Enzo Silvestri. Midfield
In his 2nd spell at the Club having spent time at Aylesbury in 06-07. Hard working player who was at Northampton as a youngster. Attacker midfield player who ended last season as the Club’s top goalscorer with 12 goals.

Craig Kench. Midfield
Re-joined the Club at the start of last season after playing for the Club in the late Nineties. Talented player who can play anywhere in the midfield.

Wes Lewis. Midfield
Signed in the summer of 2005 from Berkhamsted Town and had an excellent season playing 41 games but has since been troubled by injuries. Made 21 apperances in 06-07 and only 5 last season. If he can stay fit will be a very important member of this season’s squad.

Jamie O’Grady. Midfield
Signed in the summer from Aylesbury Utd. A former Northampton Town U18 player who has also played for Buckingham Town. Tricky wide right player who at only 19 has a bright future in the game.

Leon Gordon. Midfield / Striker
Played a handful of games in the 06-07 season and returned to the Club this summer. Has previously played for Berkhamsted town, Aylesbury Utd, Staines Town and Wycombe Wanderers.

Ben Gallant. Striker
Re-joined the Club in January from league rivals Aylesbury Utd. Talented player who is comfortable with the ball on the deck or in the air. Scored a hat-trick in the first pre-season friendly at Welwyn Garden City.

James Hatch. Striker
Signed this summer after previously playing for Bedford Town, Barton Rovers and Dunstable Town. Scored on his debut at Welwyn and looks like a very useful signing.







Sean Downey Manager
Spent a decade at Leighton Town as Player, Coach and Assistant Manager before becoming manager of Pitstone & Ivinghoe. Previous clubs include Guiseley and Vauxhall Motors. Representative honours with English Universities and Bedfordshire. Re-joined the club from Berkhamsted Town during the summer of 2005 and was appointed Assistant Manager. When Keith Scott departed in December 2007 the Club were delighted when Sean accepted the Manager’s job in January.

Paul Copson. First Team Coach
Paul played most of his career at Leverstock Green and Hemel Hempstead but since retiring he has coached at Welwyn Garden City and Berkhamstead Town before joining Leighton Town in the summer of 2005 as first team coach. He has proved to be a tremendous asset to the management team.
