Leighton announce exciting Youth Development Plans

Leighton Town have finalised plans to re-establish a U’18 development team to compete in the Southern Counties Football League for the 2019-20 season. With the demise of the South Midlands U’25 Development League, Director of Football, Sean Downey, has been working with the Leighton Town Youth section of the club to create a new structure to improve the opportunities available for aspirant youth players in the area.

• Within the new U’18 structure, the senior club, in partnership with the youth section, will run 2 teams: an elite team in the Southern Counties Football League (midweek) and a development team in the Chiltern Youth League (Sunday).

• The squads will be fluid, allowing players to interchange between the 2 teams as appropriate.

• The elite team will also be entered into the FA Youth Cup.

The club is inviting all aspirant U18 players to two important events over the next fortnight.

Event 1: Meet and Greet session: Saturday 16th March: 1-00pm at the club.
Players/parents are invited to a short presentation at the club after which they will be able to watch the Leighton Town First Team compete in a local derby against Tring Athletic FC.

Event 2: Saturday 23rd March: Open Trial at Cedars Upper School: 11am – 1pm
Interested players should complete an application form at the ‘Meet and Greet’ session on Saturday 16th March.

Director of Football Sean Downey believes that this development is an important and exciting one both for the club and for aspirant players in the locality. “For a number of years now there has been little opportunity for the best young local players to find a pathway into the first team squad at Leighton Town. Our new First Team Management duo Joe Sweeney and Paul Copson, Leighton Town Youth and I are committed to ensuring that this opportunity is established and that we once again become the hub for the best youth talent at U18 in the town and wider locality”

Anyone who wishes to discuss this new development or feels that they are able to support it in any way can contact Sean on 07585116763.
